What it costs

Priced on site, before we start

Carpet laid over pad is priced by the square foot: $1 per square foot, with a $250 minimum that covers up to 250 square feet, about one large room. A 1,000-square-foot house of carpet is $1,000. Glued-down carpet and stairs take much longer, so they're quoted on site. Carpet you've already pulled up and rolled is just a load, priced by the space it takes in the trailer.

Every price includes the labor, hauling, disposal and a sweep-up. Your on-site price is the most you'll pay.

Local rules

Can the city take old carpet?

Sometimes, if you pull it up yourself and it fits the rules. Garland's weekly bulky pickup takes carpet. But carpet that comes up in a remodel can count as remodeling debris, which several cities limit or won't take:

Carpet removal: common questions

How much does carpet removal cost?

For carpet laid over pad, $1 per square foot plus tax, with a $250 minimum. That includes pulling up the carpet, pad and tack strip, hauling it off and disposal. A 12 × 12 room (144 square feet) is the $250 minimum; 1,000 square feet is $1,000. Glued-down carpet and stairs are quoted on site.

How does that compare with other companies?

Cost guides put carpet removal at about $0.70 to $1.60 per square foot, with hauling and disposal often extra, at about $0.45 to $0.60 per square foot. Our price includes disposal.

Do you install new flooring?

No. We take the old carpet out and leave the floor swept, ready for your installer.

What about glued-down carpet or stairs?

We quote those on site, because they take much longer than carpet laid over pad: glued-down carpet comes up in strips, and every stair is wrapped and stapled. You get a firm price before we start, and that's the most you'll pay.

I already pulled it up. What does that cost?

Then it's a regular load, priced by the space it takes in the trailer. A room's worth of rolled carpet and pad is about 1 cubic yard, so a few rooms' worth usually fits in a quarter trailer (from $259).

Do you take the tack strip too?

Yes. Tack strip comes up with the carpet, and we sweep up the loose debris.
