Will Home Depot, Lowe's or Best Buy haul away my old appliance?
The short answer
Home Depot and Lowe's take an old appliance only on the day they deliver a new one, one for one, and only if it's already disconnected and empty. Best Buy does the same for $49.99, and it's the one big store that also sells a standalone pickup: $199.99 for up to two large items.

When the store won't take it
The one-for-one rule leaves out a lot of appliances. Common ones we see:
- The old fridge or freezer in the garage that nobody is replacing.
- A washer when you only bought a dryer, or a second appliance from a kitchen remodel.
- An appliance you already replaced that's been sitting in the garage since.
- Appliances in a house you're clearing out, with nothing new being delivered.
For those, your options are city bulk pickup (if your city takes appliances at the curb), Best Buy's standalone service, or a junk removal company.
What city pickup will do
It depends a lot on the city. A few examples from the cities we serve:
- Rowlett and Dallas don't take refrigerators or freezers at the curb.
- Garland takes appliances with weekly bulky pickup, in their own pile.
- Mesquite picks up appliances on Wednesdays, but you have to call or use the app first.
- Sachse, Wylie and Heath only take refrigerators and freezers once the refrigerant has been removed and certified or tagged.
- Plano takes refrigerators, freezers and A/C units only through a paid special collection.

How our price compares
We price by the space things take in our trailer. One appliance is a single-item pickup, from $119, or $99 when you book online, plus a $40 Freon fee for refrigerators, freezers and window A/C units. We carry it out from anywhere, with no purchase needed, and it goes to a scrap-metal recycler.
To be straight with you: for two big appliances that are already disconnected and waiting by the door, Best Buy's $199.99 service can cost less than we do; two appliances are usually a quarter trailer with us (from $259). We're the better fit for one appliance, for anything Best Buy won't take, or when the appliance goes out with the rest of a garage or house.
Getting it ready, whoever takes it
- Have water and gas lines shut off and disconnected by a plumber or gas technician. Stores and junk haulers generally won't do it.
- Empty the fridge or freezer and unplug it the day before so it can defrost and drain.
- Drain the washer hoses and the water heater.
- Clear a path from the appliance to the door.

Does Home Depot haul away old appliances for free?
Home Depot takes an old appliance only when it delivers a new one, and whether there's a fee depends on the store and the item; third-party guides report $25 to $50. Will Lowe's take an appliance I didn't buy there?
