Before we come
- Empty the fridge or freezer, unplug it the day before and leave the door open to defrost. A towel underneath catches the drips.
- Have water and gas lines shut off and disconnected before we arrive. We don't disconnect gas or water lines.
- Drain the water heater, or have your plumber do it.
- Leave it where it is. Kitchen, laundry room or garage, we'll carry it out.
What it costs
Pay only for the space you use
One appliance is a single-item pickup. A fridge, a washer and a dryer together usually fit in a quarter trailer (from $259).
Refrigerators, freezers and window A/C units add a $40 Freon recovery fee each. Old tube (CRT) TVs add $35. Washers, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, water heaters and flat-screen TVs have no extra fee.
Every price includes labor and loading from anywhere on the property, hauling, disposal and a sweep-up. Your on-site quote is the most you'll pay. If it packs tighter than we estimated, the price goes down.

We carry it out, load it, sweep up where it stood, and take it to a scrap-metal recycler.
Where it goes
- Appliances are mostly steel, so they go to a scrap-metal recycler instead of the landfill.
- Refrigerators, freezers and A/C units hold refrigerant. Federal rules under the Clean Air Act make it illegal to vent it, and it has to be recovered before the appliance is scrapped. That's what the $40 Freon fee covers.
- Working appliances in good shape are donated whenever possible.
Local rules
Will the city pick up my refrigerator?
Usually not without a catch. Most cities around here either won't take a fridge or freezer at the curb, or only take it after a technician has removed the refrigerant and tagged it. We handle the refrigerant for you: no technician visit, no tag and no waiting for the right day.

No. Rowlett's weekly bulk pickup doesn't take refrigerators or freezers.
- Garland
Appliances go in their own pile, at least 4 feet from other piles, on your green-cart day. The city also won't collect individual items over 40 pounds.
- Sachse
Only if a licensed technician has removed the refrigerant and tagged the unit.
- Heath
Only once the Freon has been removed and certified.
- Wylie
Only with a tag certifying the refrigerant was removed.
- Mesquite
Free on Wednesdays, but you have to call 972-216-6285 or use the myMesquite app first.
- Dallas
No. Bulky pickup doesn't take refrigerators, freezers or A/C units with coolant.
- Plano
Only through a paid Special Paid Collection, with an extra environmental fee.

Refrigerator & appliance removal: common questions
Why is there a $40 fee for refrigerators?
Refrigerators, freezers and window A/C units hold refrigerant, which has to be recovered before the metal can be recycled. It's illegal to vent it. The $40 covers that, and it's on your quote before we start.
Do I need to empty and defrost the fridge?
Yes, please. Empty it, unplug it the day before and leave the door open so it can drain. It keeps water and spoiled food off your floors on the way out.
Can you disconnect the water line or gas?
No. Please have water and gas lines shut off and disconnected before we arrive. A licensed plumber can take care of it.
Are there fees for washers, dryers or stoves?
No. Only refrigerators, freezers and window A/C units (the Freon fee) and tube TVs carry a fee. Everything else is priced by the space it takes in the trailer.
Can you take an old TV?
Yes. Flat screens have no extra fee. Tube (CRT) TVs carry a $35 recycling fee because their leaded glass has to go to an electronics recycler.
What if the appliance still works?
Working appliances in good shape are donated whenever possible. The rest go to a scrap-metal recycler.
Won't the store take my old one?
